Economic Development: Building Lompoc’s Future

Lompoc is on the brink of significant economic growth, and with the right strategies, we can seize this moment to create lasting prosperity for our community.

Harnessing Major Job Opportunities
The $600 million expansion at Vandenberg Space Force Base and the growth of private space launch facilities present unprecedented job opportunities. Additionally, new initiatives in offshore wind, agricultural technology, and general technology/engineering sectors are set to transform our local economy. To capitalize on these opportunities, we must focus on preparing our workforce with the skills needed to thrive in these emerging industries. A strong economy is essential for addressing broader community challenges, including youth violence, by providing pathways to stable, rewarding careers.

Revitalizing Downtown and Old Town
Our downtown and Old Town areas are the heart of Lompoc, and revitalizing them is crucial for creating a vibrant, walkable community with a unique identity. Development projects, such as a new theater and arts center, will breathe new life into these areas, attracting both locals and visitors. While fostering growth, it’s also important to maintain the character and appeal of these neighborhoods. That’s why I support limiting cannabis businesses in downtown and Old Town to ensure they remain welcoming and attractive for all.

Creating a Robust Workforce Pipeline
For Lompoc to succeed in the long term, we must establish a strong workforce pipeline that connects employers, schools, and students. By creating opportunities for skill development and job training, we can ensure our residents are ready to take on the jobs of tomorrow. Collaboration between the City, County, and Vandenberg Space Force Base will be key to enhancing our economic prospects. Together, we can explore shared opportunities, secure additional grants, and build a workforce that is prepared for the future.

Fostering Strong Schools for a Thriving Community
At the foundation of a thriving community are strong schools. Quality education not only attracts employers and families but also helps maintain property values and contributes to the overall well-being of our city. By supporting our schools, we’re investing in the future leaders, innovators, and citizens who will continue to drive Lompoc forward.
