Empowering Our Youth: A Path to Success

Youth well-being is a top priority for our community, and it’s essential to build on the significant efforts already underway by organizations such as LUSD, Moms Demand Action, and C4. These groups have been instrumental in addressing the underlying issues affecting our young people, helping to create a safer, more supportive environment that is vital to the overall health of our community.

Expanding Youth Programs and Resources
The recent addition of a new teen center in Lompoc is a positive step forward, providing a safe and engaging space where young people can connect, learn, and grow. However, our work doesn’t stop there. To further support our youth, I am committed to expanding educational and after-school programs, ensuring that every child has access to quality education and enrichment opportunities. These programs are designed to empower our youth, helping them to succeed academically, socially, and personally.

Collaborating with Local Colleges and Organizations
Collaboration with local educational institutions is key to the success of our youth programs. Partnering with Allan Hancock College and Santa Barbara City College (SBCC), we will work to create pathways for high school students to access college courses, vocational training, and dual-enrollment programs. This collaboration will help students gain valuable skills, earn college credits, and explore potential career paths while still in high school. Additionally, we will collaborate with organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA, and other local nonprofits to provide a broad range of activities and support services that cater to the diverse needs of our young people.

Addressing Mental Health Needs
The mental health of our youth is a critical aspect of their overall well-being. I am committed to integrating mental health services into schools and community centers, ensuring that accessible counseling and support are available to those who need it. By offering comprehensive mental health resources, we can help our youth navigate the challenges they face, from academic pressures to social and emotional struggles, and ensure they have the tools they need to thrive.

Building a Stronger Future
Investing in our youth is an investment in the future of Lompoc. By providing strong educational support, addressing mental health needs, and creating partnerships with local colleges and organizations, we can equip our young people with the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Together, we can build a community where every young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential, contributing to a stronger, more vibrant Lompoc.
